Over the past five years, more than 12% of the cases handled by Unia following reports in the health and personal care sector concerned so-called racial criteria. These criteria form the third most frequent reason for filing a report in this sector, just after disability and state of health.

The results of the first part of the Equality data research demonstrated the existence of racial discrimination and inequalities in healthcare in Belgium. To remedy this, Unia has launched a study on the subject.

What are the objectives of this research?

  • Address the lack of data on racial inequalities and discrimination in healthcare
  • Support the healthcare sector and policymakers in the implementation of evidence-based policy in  for combating discrimination and racial inequalities in the healthcare sector.
  • Propose recommendations for the fight against racial discrimination in healthcare.
