Unia for civil society

When it comes to inclusion and diversity, we can only make a difference together. Tackling racism, disability, age discrimination or other discriminations concerns us all. That is why Unia is committed to supporting civil society organisations that are active on the ground helping people who face discrimination.

What is considered discrimination?

Treating people differently because of skin colour, age, sexual orientation or another protected characteristic is discrimination. In Belgium, this is prohibited by law. But victims do not always know that they are being discriminated against and that they can do something about it. Understanding discrimination is crucial.

Where can people go if they are discriminated against or encounter hate speech?

At Unia they can report discrimination free of charge. This can be done by telephone on 0800 12 800 or online.

Where can victims find a sympathetic ear if Unia cannot help?

If we cannot follow up on the report, we will refer you to an organisation that is better suited to do so:
