Unia is an independent public service to fight discrimination and promote equal opportunities.

The federal police and the Centre for Equal Opportunities have been working together closely since 1996 in order to bring this ambition to fruition and fully integrate diversity in the existing processes within the police. 

Access to housing is faced with numerous pitfalls: inadequate public offer, cost of private housing, insalubrity, economic crisis, lack of suitable housing, etc. Added to this is the issue of discrimination.

The annual activity report of the Centre for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism for the year 2012 has been published. In this way the Centre is not only fulfilling its legal duty to report on its activities, but also intends to fuel debate on discrimination, diversity, migration and human trafficking..

The Centre for equal opportunities and opposition to racism is regularly questioned about statements which defy the boundaries of free speech. Should one be able to say anything and everything? Can freedom of speech justify any statement? Or which statements can infringe the law?

2011 was the first year of the Centre’s three-year strategic plan for 2011-2013. The strategic plan sets out the main outlines of the two pillars of its legal mission: Discrimination/Equal Opportunities, and Migration (migration flows, basic rights of foreigners, human trafficking).

The year 2010 was one of consolidation and preparation. The Centre strengthened its structural collaboration with the regions and communities, both with Flanders and with the French Community and the Walloon Region.
